Yohan Blake slip costs him the 100m Commonwealth title

Pre-race favourite Yohan Blake never recovered from an early slip as Akani Simbine won in 10.03 seconds on Monday and Henricho Bruintjies clinched a South African one-two.

The 28-year-old favorite from St. James, Jamaica has 17 golden, 4 silver and 4 bronze medals in total, from numerous championships and competitions.

He has two golden medals from the Olympic games (2012 London, 2016 Rio de Janeiro), and two silver medals from 2012 London Olympic games.

This is his first Commonwealth Games medal, and even though he was seen as a favorite on the track, Blake ended up with bronze in his hands.

The 2018 Gold Coast 2018 (21st Commonwealth Games) have started on April 4, and the games will end on April 15.

There are 71 Commonwealth teams participating in 275 events, in 19 sports. Main venue is held at Carrara Stadium, in Gold Coast, Australia.
